ABOUT ITBR
A registry built around one idea: health first.
ITBR is Australia's health-focused private breeding registry for dogs and cats. We exist because we believe every animal deserves to be born of tested parents and every buyer deserves to know it.
OUR STORY
Why ITBR exists
Australia has many breeding registries. All with different purposes be it conformation showing, breed purity or purely to receive a pedigree. ITBR was created where health testing isn't just considered a badge of honour but an entry requirement to the registry.
We recognise that purebred, crossbred and developing breed dogs and cats are all being produced in Australia. Rather than excluding breeders who don't fit a traditional mould, ITBR brings them into framework where health transparency is universal.
Every certificate issued by ITBR whether is be a Full Registry pedigree for a six-generation Labrador or a Heritage Certificate for a Poodle cross Cavalier carries the same guarantee: both parents were DNA tested, the results are interpreted by individuals in the field and the results are provided with each pedigree.
'Every animal produced in Australia deserves to be born of health-tested parents. Every buyer deserves that transparency. That's the whole point. '
ITBR FOUDNIG PRINCIPLE
REGISTRY TYPES
Four pathways into ITBR registry
Every pathway has the same non-negotiable requirements; DNA health testing for all breeding animals. Which pathway you needs depends on your animals documented heritage and breeding objective
Full Registry Pedigree
For animals with 4+ generations of verified heritage through ITBR or a recognised breeding organisation.
Extension Registry Pedigree
For clearly purebred animals building traceable heritage towards full registry status over 5 generations.
Heritage Certificate
A health verified heritage document for first-generation crosses of two registered purebred animals.
Developing Breed Pedigree
A structured multi generational program for intentional new breed development, requiring committee approval.
WHAT WE STAND FOR
Core values
Everything ITBR does flows from these commitments.
Health
DNA health testing is non-negotiable for every breeding animal on every registry type. No exceptions, no exemptions. It applies to purebreds, extension animals, crossbreds and developing breeds alike. Further testing will become compulsory over the coming years.
Transparency by design
Health test results are provided to every puppy/kitten owner. Registered breeders are listed publicly. The complaints process is accessible to everyone. We believe transparency is a structural feature, not a marketing claim.
Inclusion with integrity
ITBR is broader than traditional registries. We issue Heritage Certificates for health-tested crossbreds (1st generation only) and support Developing Breed programs. Inclusion is only meaningful when the standards travel with it.
Clear Governance
Every rule ITBR enforces is published. The Code of Conduct, Code of Ethics, Code of Practice, Genetic Compatibility Guidelines, and all forms are freely available. Members and the public can read exactly what we require and why.
Community accountability
Members are publicly listed, held to conduct standards, and subject to a formal disciplinary process if a complaint is received. The complaints pathway is open to buyers and the public, not just other members. Accountablity is not optional.
Continual improvement
Health testing requirements are updated as new tests become available. Governance documents are reviewed annually (at the minimum). ITBR is a living system that moves with the science, not one frozen at its foundation.
HOW WE ARE ORGANISED
ITBR structure
ITBR is governed by a committee and administrated by a small team. All governance documents are publicly available.
Committee
The ITBR committee sets policy, reviews Developing Breed applications, oversees the disciplinary process, and proves changes to governance documents. Committee decisions are final on registry and disciplinary matters.
Administration
ITBR administration processes applications, issues certificates, maintains the member and animal databases, updates the public breeder directory monthly and manages group moderators across the ITBR Facebook community groups.
Members
All ITBR members are bound by the Code of Conduct, Code of Ethics, and Code of Practice. Members participate in the annual suggestions process and may be appointed as community group moderators for their breeds if they volunteer.
